Major shareholder of Chile’s Hortifrut leads auction of 9% of the firm

The main shareholder of the Chilean agroindustrial Hortifrut and other partners auctioned about 9% of the company’s titles on Thursday, in an operation that raised some US $125 million and gave a greater stock market presence.

The auction of shares of Hortifrut, world leader in the business of blueberries and berries, occurs after the agro-exporter merged with a subsidiary of Peru’s Talsa, through a new controlling pact led by the Chilean family Moller and the Peruvian Quevedo.

At the auction, 40.66 million titles of Hortifrut were sold at a price of 2,000 pesos per share. The transaction recorded a demand 2.2 times the offer, detailed the Santiago Stock Exchange.

Agroindustrial joined more than 900 new shareholders after the auction, which come from the Pension Fund Administrators (AFP), in addition to local and foreign investors.

The auctioned titles corresponded to shares of the Moller family and other shareholders that were outside the controlling agreement.

Halfway through the session, Hortifrut’s shares traded down 2.8% to 2,040 pesos per share on the Santiago Stock Exchange.
