The Chinese company Cosco Shipping would be evaluating settling in the ports of Peru for its development, according to the Vice Minister of Transportation, Carlos Estremadoyro.
The shipping company is located in the South American country making the respective consultations for the acquisition of Peruvian ports, published Gestión.
“Cosco Shipping is a company that is buying ports in the world and they have visited us to make inquiries” said Estremadoyro.
The vice minister said that one of the projects in which the Chinese company has shown interest, is that of Chancay Ports where they would be investing US $ 2 billion, according to what was said a few weeks ago by the Chinese ambassador to the country.
Estremadoyro recalled that among the upcoming tenders, is the port of San Juan de Marcona, whose project will be declared interest at the end of 2018; a preliminary step for the reception of the proposals.
In the case of this tender, he commented that the private initiative proposal already has the insured cargo.
In addition to the initiative of San Juan de Marcona, there is the port of Chimbote, which is in the portfolio of the Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru (ProInversión) for the 2019 measures.
