Fox shareholders approve agreement with Walt Disney for US $ 71,000M

Twenty-First Century Fox Inc said on Friday that its shareholders voted to approve Walt Disney Co’s purchase of its $ 71 billion movie and television assets.

Disney was forced to upgrade its offer last month, after Comcast Corp, the largest cable television company in the United States, made an offer of US $ 66 billion for Fox’s well-known television shows and movie franchises, including to “X-Men” and “The Simpsons.”

The bidding between Comcast and Disney was part of a larger battle in the entertainment industry, as media companies spend tens of billions of dollars on business to compete with Netflix Inc and Amazon.com Inc.

Fox shares were down 0.22% to US $ 45.29, while Disney shares were down 0.64% to US $ 112.78.
