Brazilian JBS signs agreement to buy Empire Packing in the US for US $238M

The Brazilian company JBS announced last week an agreement to buy the American Empire Packing for US $238 million, which includes the Ledbetter brand of beef, pork and processed products.

The Brazilian food conglomerate said the acquisition is made by the US unit JBS USA and includes five production facilities located in the cities of Cincinnati (Ohio), Denver (Colorado), Mason (Ohio), Memphis (Tennessee) and Olympia (Washington).

“Empire is a respected family business, with strong leadership and quality assets located in strategic regions of the United States and that fit well with our business model,” JBS USA chief executive André Nogueira said in a statement.

JBS, the world’s largest producer of animal proteins, said last December that it plans to invest US $1.9 billion over the next five years as it prepares to meet the growing demand for meat in Brazil and abroad.
