The board of directors of Avianca officially appointed the Dutch manager Anko van der Werff as the new executive president of the airline, replacing Hernán Rincón.
Anko Van Der Werff, who was born in Holland and attended Harvard, joined Aeromexico in June 2014 as commercial executive director, from the ranks of Qatar Airways, where he served as vice president in charge of pricing. Now, he will have the challenge of facing the business situation that Avianca is experiencing.
The appointment of Van Der Werff is given after the resignation of Hernán Rincón on April 24, after three years in the chairmanship of Avianca Holdings and constant changes that the board has suffered.
While the selection process of the new CEO was carried out, the company was headed by Renato Covelo, current Legal Vice President of the General Counsel.
The company explained that the selection process was advanced by a prestigious international firm.
